Do you dare tell people you take supplements?

Do you dare tell people you take supplements?

Holistic Supplements Bare Solutions

This is a bit of a firecracker topic, but it’s worth unpacking.

We work in an industry that’s often judged... sometimes fairly, sometimes not. Between hyped marketing claims and patchy skin therapist education, skin treatments are often met with skepticism. It’s no wonder clients are confused. Add supplements into the mix, and things get even messier.

So why did we decide to introduce supplements at Bare Solutions?

Because clients kept asking. And because I believe in offering thoughtful, evidence-informed support. We’ve chosen to work with Holistic, a Swedish brand that supports us with information and conversations. Because we’re also still learning.

The most requested supplements in our clinic?
No surprise here: Collagen, Zinc, Magnesium and Omega-3s.

Now, as more people notice we carry supplements, the critiques are starting to roll in. Some are general, others are about the brand we stock, and some come from clients who’ve done their homework (which I love, by the way). These conversations are valuable, they push us all to think deeper.

But there’s another side to this.

I often see people with skin concerns turn to supplements as a starting point. Sometimes it’s the only thing they feel they can try. It might be their first step in taking control of their skin journey, or their only source of hope when nothing else has worked.

So here’s a gentle question:

Do our opinions have the right to take that away from them?

If you're someone who’s skeptical of supplements, here are a few things to consider before judging someone who takes them:

  • Do you know what outcomes to expect from supplements?

  • Do you understand how to track results?

  • Are your opinions based on lab tests, or a feeling?

  • Have you done deep research, or just a quick Google search?

Because at the end of the day, if someone finds a supplement helpful, does it really need to be debated?

A few months ago, SVT published an article quoting a doctor from Danderyd Hospital who claimed that supplements don’t influence hormones, and that the only solution for women in hormonal transition is medical treatment.

Here’s my take:

If the medical system isn’t currently providing adequate support for women navigating hormonal shifts, shouldn’t we at least allow space for them to try supplements? The supplement world and medical world can coexist. In fact, they already do.

Every week, we treat surgeons, nurses, and doctors at Bare Solutions. Many of them take supplements, some even buy them from us. Almost all of them say their training in nutrition and supplementation was minimal or non-existent. And while they may not be able to officially recommend supplements, they still choose to use them for their own health.

In Summary

If you’re taking supplements, or considering them, do your research. Know what you’re hoping to achieve. Be curious to learning supporting your skin.

And if you’re someone who’s skeptical of supplements, take a moment to understand where the other person is coming from.

Sometimes, that supplement isn’t just a capsule. It’s a step forward and hope.
