Waxing can give you smooth, hair-free skin, but the results are best when your skin is properly prepared. These simple steps before and after your appointment help reduce bumps, breakouts, and ingrown hairs.
Before Your Appointment
Timing | Do | Avoid |
2–3 Days Before | - Gently exfoliate with a scrub towel or Scrub Butter | Avoid sun exposure or tanning beds |
Pause acids or retinoids (glycolic, salicylic, lactic acid) | ||
On the day or right before you arrive | Shower before your treatment if you are prone to inflamed hair follicles | Avoid body oils or heavy lotions |
Wear clean, loose, breathable clothing | Limit energy drinks/caffeine (increases sensitivity) |
Booking Tip
If it’s your first wax avoid scheduling before an important event (eg. wedding or spa), holidays or hot weather. Sweat can trigger skin reactions and cause bacteria infections. Certain areas of our body sweats more than other areas (eg. back, chest, bikini area) which can cause skin irritation for some people. We always recommend that you test waxing at least one time before your event. To plan, contact us and we will guide you.
Aftercare: First 24–48 Hours

Clothing and Sleep | Wear breathable clothing, sleep in clean sheets | Tight or synthetic clothing |
Activity | - | Sweating, gym, saunas, steam rooms, swimming pools, sunbathing |
Skin Contact | - | Touching, scratching, picking. |
Preventing Ingrown Hairs and Breakouts
Ingrown hairs and breakouts can happen if dead skin, sweat, or bacteria clog sensitive hair follicles.
Tip | How |
Correct exfoliation | Start 3–4 days after waxing; use a clean, washable scrub towel and wash at 60°C after each use. Scrub items remove dead skin cells. Leaving scrub tools to dry in a damp shower or on a radiator does not kill bacteria or remove dead skin cells on items. Sweat, bacteria and dry skin are often the main reason behind ingrown hairs. |
Gentle chemical exfoliation | If prone to ingrown hairs, use a mild acid-based exfoliant 2–3 times per week to keep follicles clear. |
Overall care | Avoid overdoing exfoliation; tools are supportive, yet not the main solution. Laser is always the best solution for ingrown hairs and we strongly suggest doing a consultation to learn how it can help you. |
Following these steps helps your skin stay calm, smooth, and healthy between waxing sessions.
